Hunterdon Isr With Certified instructor Clare Parente
Below is a copy of pertinent policies and guidelines that will need to be adhered to in order to successfully participate in ISR lessons. You will be required to agree to all terms of the contract after securing a time slot. Be sure to take the time to read and understand all the information before clicking 'sign up' as the system only allows 30 minutes to complete the sign up process.
LESSON FEES
Infant Swimming Resource's Self-Rescue® survival swimming program is scheduled 5 days per week, Monday through Friday, for 10 minutes each day. It takes approximately 30 lessons (6 weeks) to complete the course but it is the child, not the time in lessons, that determines when the child is skilled. ISR Self-Rescue session fee is $750 per child. A non-refundable* 50% retainer ($375) is required to schedule a session and secure a time slot. Invoice for the second payment ($375) will be sent on Friday of week one. Payment is due the following Monday. You are paying for 30 consecutive lessons. If your child takes longer than 6 weeks to be skilled or requires more time due to vacation or frequent absences, you will be charged at a rate of $125/week.
Payment can be made by cash, check (payable to Hunterdon ISR) or square invoice (service fee of 2.9%+.30 per transaction).
Payment for lessons is NOT prorated as you are paying for a weekly time slot whether or not your child comes to lessons. In order for your child to be successful, it is very important that you are committed to bringing them to lessons.
*Retainer is non-refundable and non-transferable. Exceptions are made in the event of instructor cancellation or if ISR's Registration Evaluation Team (RET) does not approve a student for lessons.
ISR NATIONAL REGISTRATION
Register and pay the non-refundable ISR registration fee of $105 ($40 for a returning student) using the link I will send you 30 days prior to lessons starting. This fee does not go to the Instructor and is not a deposit toward lessons. All students must be cleared by the Registration Evaluation Team (RET) prior to starting their first in-water lesson. You will be required to provide information specific to your child's medical and developmental history. This information will be used to make adjustments to the lessons if necessary and to ensure your child's safety. All registrations are kept strictly confidential. Once your child's registration is approved, I will be notified and will contact you to finalize scheduling.
ATTENDANCE & CANCELLATION POLICY
Consistency is crucial to your child's learning process and to their retention of learned skills. It is important to attend every lesson. Missing lessons may result in adding weeks to the course before your child is fully skilled. Only lessons canceled by the Instructor will be available for a credited makeup within 21 calendar days. All other missed lessons will NOT be refunded or credited. You are required to pay for all scheduled lessons.
MISSED LESSON, ILLNESS, DR. APPOINTMENT
If your child is sick or has a fever, contact me immediately and please do not come to the pool. Fever is defined as a rectal, ear, or temporal artery temperature of 100.4º F or higher, an oral temperature of 100º F or higher, or an armpit (axillary) temperature of 99º F or higher.
If your child: (experiences anything below...do not come to the pool)
*Has required any medical attention (other than a well-child visit); this includes any new diagnosis, new medications, illnesses or injuries.
*Has developed a rash, has a seizure, has a medical, dental or eye procedure or has received a referral to a specialist.
*Has had signs of illness within the past 48 hours such as vomiting, diarrhea or fever.
*Has an eye infection or drainage, a new rash, an open wound, stitches, glue or steri strips.
*Is wheezing or has severe coughing or congestion.
*Used a rescue inhaler or EpiPen on the day of lessons.
*Took an antihistamine in response to an allergic reaction (not seasonal allergies) within four hours of the lesson.
*Is awaiting approval on a Medical Lesson Update (MLU) or a Registration Update.
*Has not met the conditions given by the RET after an MLU has been submitted.
*Received a vaccine on the same day (12 hour waiting period required)
*Do not come to the Pool
If your child misses 3 consecutive lessons due to illness or has any change in their registration information, lessons will be put on hold and you will be required by ISR to update your medical information with the Registration Evaluation Team (RET) for review to ensure your child receives the safest, most effective lesson possible.
ELECTRONIC PARENT RESOURCE BOOK (ePRB)
You will be prompted to download the ISR e-Parent Resource Book (ePRB) after you have registered through ISR. Please read through this wholly and carefully. This resource will answer most of your questions and educate you about the approach used to teach aquatic survival skills.
ADVERSE WEATHER/POOL WATER ISSUES
Unless it is below 60 degrees, raining very hard, and/or there is lightning within 10 miles, we will swim. In the case of severe weather, you will be notified via text. I will try to give you as much notice as possible. If you do not hear from me, please come to lessons as planned. If the pool water temperature is not within our protocols, we will NOT swim. If the pool chemistry levels are not safe, we will NOT swim.
TIME SCHEDULE
Please arrive 5 minutes prior to your time slot and have your child dressed and ready to swim. There is no changing area on the premises. The lesson cannot be guaranteed if you are not on time and ready. If you are late, I will try to fit you in but your lesson will be shortened or moved around to accommodate other students.
10 MINUTE LESSON
This is our maximum lesson time. The lesson time is variable based on many factors and behaviors including; needing to burp, temperature, the start time of lesson, and the skills achieved that day. Goals are set aside for each lesson and will conclude to optimize positive reinforcement and end on a good note. Many lessons will end before 10 minutes.
BUDS SHEET
At the beginning of every lesson, we will discuss the BUDS (bowels, urine, diet, sleep) sheet. This will only take a few seconds but is a required ISR safety protocol and no lessons may occur without this review. Please make sure you discuss any issues and/or concerns with me PRIOR to the lesson. Please make sure that any caretaker that brings your child to lessons knows the BUDS information.
DIET
Your child may not eat for at least 1.5 to 2 hours before lessons. No dairy/milk products for at least 2 hours prior to lessons. Your child will be working hard and no one works well on a full stomach. No APPLES or apple products, pineapple, papaya, passion fruit, peaches, spinach, honey, or celery in any form for the duration of ISR lessons. These foods can cause the build-up of gases in the abdomen leading to distention and discomfort for your child which can lead to safety issues during lessons. This means no juice, cereals, pouches, or anything that has these products in them. Should your child accidentally be fed any of these items, please be sure to discuss them during the BUDS discussion so that I can make the necessary adjustments. Some students may require more time between meals and lessons. Refer to your ePRB for more important dietary guidelines.
SWIM ATTIRE
ISR requires that every child not potty trained for more than six months must wear two layers of NON-disposable (reusable) swim diapers. This "double protection" will help to ensure a safe pool environment for everyone. Disposable diapers are not acceptable.
Should you not comply with the two reusable diaper rule and encounter a fecal incident, you will be responsible for the fees of all lessons canceled after yours. The health and safety of all ISR students is of utmost importance. I will not compromise safety. In the event you do not have swim diapers with you, I will have them available for purchase poolside for $12/ea.Please keep your child's fingernails trimmed and long hair pulled back.
3-TOWEL RULE
ISR requires 3 towels per day for each child swimming. Three towels = 2 towels to place on the handout area where I will hand the child out upon completion of his/her lesson + 1 towel to dry the child. This policy is in place to prevent the transmission of germs from shared areas of the pool. No lesson will be given without abiding by the 3-towel rule.
FLOATATION DEVICES
Throw them away! These devices are very dangerous! They teach muscle memory to bobbing vertically in the water without any breath control and create a lack of respect for the water while teaching your child to think that they are actually swimming. Children do not understand that they can not swim without the device and enter the water without it. Using these devices will negate all the hard work your child does during training to learn how to swim and self-rescue.
INTERFERENCE
Interference is anything that might undo already learned skills, create confusion, and/or that might create habits that are not conducive to a proper swimming posture and Self-Rescue. Interference includes such things as "working" or "practicing" with your child in the water, putting your child in floaties/puddle jumpers, allowing your child in the baby pool, walking around on the pool steps or allowing your child to "practice" in the bathtub, etc. Keep in mind that it can take 30+ lessons for a child to become fully skilled but only a matter of hours for those skills to be interfered with. Any interference affects your child's safety and their ability to perform the survival skills.
